Training Plans
Are you unsure what training your people need? Do you find training can be a waste of time and nothing gets “fixed” and nothing changes? Do you have an effective training plan in place?
Training Needs Analysis (TNA) identifies the training gap, either for an individual or a group, and the training that needs to be put into place to close the learning gap. The “gap” is identified by firstly determining, what is the required level of knowledge and skill to undertake the actual work, and then measures the individual’s actual knowledge and skill, and hence evaluates the difference.
Training Gap = Required minus Actual Performance
The TNA can be based on either the current and/or the future needs of your people. A properly conducted TNA, avoids “blanket training” and “training done for the sake of training”. The TNA targets the training and gets a better return on your investment.
Once the training gap is identified a training plan is prepared which documents the actual training to take place, the timeframe, mode of delivery, approach and which individuals need what type of training. Properly prepared and executed, it ensures that training is “never a waste of time and money”, but a real investment in improving the knowledge, skills and performance of your people. It links the skills of your people with the strategies, direction and goals of the organisation.
